Once again Oszkar Maurer has crafted a remarkable wine, showcasing his mastery as a guardian of native grape varieties.
This expressive wine strikes a perfect balance, is light and juicy making it an easy, refreshing and enjoyable drink. It reflects the flavours of the region, of wonderful sun ripened apple and quince. At the same time it displays distinctive complexity and a stirring sensation.
On the palate savoury notes of melon, quince and baking spices emerge, while the texture of the wine is both grippy and generous with ripe yellow apples taking centre stage.
A bracing modest acidity complements the fruity aromas with an intriguing touch of green tea that brings it all together.
The finish is marked by notable minerality, leaving a lasting and gratifying impression.
And there is some more to tell…
As Oszkar Maurer is constantly looking for opportunities to reduce the environmental impact of his winery, one of the changes he already implements is replacing plastic or metal capsules, eventually wax/plastic caps, with clay caps to protect the cork.
Additionally, he will ensure that the clay mud used for these caps comes from the same place where the wine in the bottle originates, as he believes that, just like the wine, the soil also conveys information.
This commitment to using sustainable materials and highlighting the connection between the soil and the wine’s characteristics showcases Maurer’s dedication to environmental responsibility.
“This may seem like a small step, but it can make a significant difference for our planet. Globally, wineries utilise 15 billion capsules annually, which leads to substantial environmental burdens in terms of production, transportation and waste.”
“While we may not be able to change the world alone, we can change ourselves. Our planet is a precious gift, and it’s crucial that we take care of it.”
