Fodor 2018 – Orange Wine
Fodor is a fascinating, traditional Serbian wine made from the Welschriesling grape. It is full of vitality and honesty. The nose is mostly of flowers and talcum powder and a hint of wet cotton plus honey characteristics, which point to perhaps a tad of noble rot in the field. The palate is refreshing with flavors of citrus and apricot. The tannins are redolent of white tea. This is an amber wine with length, layers and depth.
The wine is from 50 year old plants, bushy type of cultivation. It is a sort of Italian Riesling with small cluster and raisins. Mid-October harvest with very ripe grapes. 7 days of maceration without any added sulphites, and this is how the fermentation ended. The wine aged in 66 year old, 500 liter barrels for 14 months. The wine is very exotic, with a herbal character.
