Red Fruit November 2015
Red Fruit November is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Blaufrankisch. Late summer ripened, the grapes are picked in November. Perfect conditions for the fruitiness of this delicious light colored dry red wine, characterized by lots of red fruit, rose hips and rhubarb.
Blaufrankisch is a thoroughly Central European grape variety, which was widely-planted throughout the Habsburg Monarchy. It is considered to be the most important black grape variety in Austria, that is in the eastern Burgenland region. Burgenland was originally, a 1000 years ago, part of the Kingdom of Hungary with the capital Odenburg, today the Hungarian city of Sopron. Once new borders were drawn, Burgenland was left without a capital, however Blaufrankisch vines remained. Of course around Sopron too, city that still calls itself the capital of Kekfrankos (Blaufrankisch).
Thanks to the Austrian marketing machine Blaufrankisch is seen as an Austrian variety, although there are only 3000 hectares in Austria, as opposed to 7300 in Hungary!
