The Unshackled Spirit of Maurer Kadarka 2022.
The vineyard that gave the grapes for Kadarka 2022 was planted in 2006. These vines are the progeny of cuttings from the historic 1912 and 1880 Kadarka vines, carrying within them more than a century of winemaking legacy.
These vines are left unpruned, which dramatically reduces yield, but as Oszkar reflects:
“Wines from unpruned vines carry an energy that we have not experienced before. We have liberated the vine; in return, it has shown us its incredible will to live.”
The wine itself is cloaked in an intense deep ruby hue with playful garnet reflections.
A bouquet bursting with the aromas of red currant, ripe raspberry, cherries, and strawberries, with tender floral notes of rose and a refreshing mint undertone, while a subtle hint of juniper berries lingers like a shadow in the background.
Upon tasting, the Kadarka 2022 rushes forth with vibrant freshness, showcasing the dominant fruity scents of rosehip and sour cherries at the forefront.
The bright acidity is in perfect harmony with the complex mineral nuances, creating a balance that is both invigorating and smooth.
The palate is graced with delicate, light tannins that melt seamlessly with a slight almond/marzipan core, culminating in a dried cranberry finish.
This wine is more than a beverage; it’s a narrative of freedom and the beauty that comes from allowing nature to express itself without constraints.
