Sagmeister – Kadarka 2019.
This Natural Red Wine, Kadarka from Fruska Gora mountain in Serbia has a deep salmon color with a slightly copper hue. On the nose, it presents aromas of cranberry, red cherry and a hint of cedar, along with subtle notes of rose and hazelnut, likely a result of the two years of oak barrel aging.
Palate is light-bodied with medium acidity, offering a refreshing and balanced experience.
The red fruit flavors continue, with a slightly tart cranberry flavor that is complemented by the subtle resinous and mineral finish.
Overall, Sagmeister Kadarka 2019 is a unique and enjoyable expression of the grape, showcasing its bright fruit flavors and a subtle complexity.
It would pair well with a range of dishes, including grilled meats, roasted vegetables, and lighter pasta dishes.
It is amazing how Sagmeister is good at managing oak aging of his wines.
In his case oak aging always compliments fruit flavors of the wine, wine has clear traces of deliberate oxidation as almond, hazelnut or caramel, sometimes a bit smoky but it’s newer overdone, oaky or woody.
